Terms of Use

1. Estimates, not advice

The calculators, guides, and nexus checker give estimates based on published state law and the numbers you enter. They are not legal, tax, or accounting advice, and using them doesn't create an attorney-client or accountant-client relationship with anyone. Before you pay or file, confirm the amount with the state agency or a licensed professional.

2. Your filings are your responsibility

You are responsible for filing on time and for paying the correct amount. That includes any penalties or interest a state charges. A deadline shown on StateDues is a convenience. Always check it against the agency's own calendar, because states sometimes extend or move due dates.

3. Accuracy

We work to keep every figure current and cite the source for each one. Laws change, agencies publish late, and we make mistakes, so we can't promise that every number on the site is correct for your tax year. If you find an error, please tell us.

4. Done-for-you filing requests

Sending a filing request doesn't file anything and doesn't charge you. We email you the total, which is the state's fee plus our service fee, before any payment is taken. A filing is complete only when the state confirms it, and we send you that confirmation.

You must give accurate information, and you must be authorized to act for the company. State fees are paid to the state, and once a filing is submitted, we can't get those fees back. If we can't complete a filing, we'll tell you, and you won't pay our service fee for it.

5. Partner links

Some links go to other companies' products. Those companies set their own terms, prices, and eligibility rules, and we aren't responsible for their services. See the disclaimer for how we're paid.

6. Calculator API

The JSON endpoint at /api/calc is open for reasonable use. We may rate-limit it, change it, or turn it off without notice. Results from the API carry the same terms as results on the site.

7. Acceptable use

Don't submit false information or file on behalf of a company you don't represent. Don't try to break into or overload the site. Don't scrape it in a way that slows it down for other people.

8. Content

Statutes and agency publications are public. The guides, calculators, and site design are ours. You're welcome to quote a guide or share a result if you link back to the page it came from.

9. No warranty and limits on liability

StateDues is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for penalties, interest, lost profits, or other losses that come from relying on the site. If we are found liable anyway, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $100 if you paid us nothing.

10. Changes

We may update these terms, and when we do, we'll change the date at the top. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the new version. Questions go to the contact page.
